Features

Launching a competition in Gleam.io is easy and even exciting. There are two ways to do it. One, you can click New Competition button on the uppermost right-hand side of the screen. The other is to select the templates below. These templates are grouped according to categories such as e-commerce, events, social media, crowdfunding, and other networks. It saves you the hassle of figuring out which design fits what campaign.

Creating a competition is quick and easy as well. Simply fill out the details needed and you’re good to go. If you’re using the template, you can copy it and then fill out the spaces. Note, though, that doing the latter may be a problem if you’re not subscribed to a paid plan. Some of the features will remain inaccessible.

A competition will never be complete without a reward, and the look of the section is similar to the competition, so it’s still very easy to use. Each template has sufficient descriptions to give you an idea where to use them best. Under the Gallery, you can upload original media files such as photos and videos, which you can embed quickly and conveniently to any of your competitions.

Don’t be confused with the Users menu, since it doesn’t mean your team. Rather, it refers to those who subscribed or joined your competition. If you’re using the Free Plan, you can see three names in here.

As a marketer, it helps if you do not only have access to tools but you can use them seamlessly together. At Gleam.io, that’s possible, and there are a lot of plugins you can add to your campaigns. These include e-mail marketing systems, autoresponders, analytics tools, and mailing list management.

Gleam also offers a branding option, which uses your preferred e-mail address and graphics such as your very own logo and heading. Upgrading benefits you since you can customize these parts.

User Experience

There are good and bad things about the overall design and user experience in Gleam.io. The good thing is it has a huge workspace, which sits right at the middle. All the other menus or tabs you may not need when launching campaigns or creating your competitions are found on the side. There are also not a lot of menus to choose from, so the entire platform doesn’t feel intimidating, overwhelming, or cluttered. The downside is it’s less responsive than you may expect. Moreover, it takes an effort to scroll down and look for the Logout button. When you click on your username and see the drop-down menu, you’ll notice both the Delete (your account) and Add a Site are beside each other, which can trigger the former if you’re not too careful.

Pricing

Gleam.io offers three subscription plans: Free, Pro ($39/month, $390/year), Business ($149/month, $1,490/year). Based on the pricing, it means you can pay per month or per year, which is the flexibility you need when you’re launching different campaigns or a fledgling business. Obviously, you get to save more money if you go for the annual billing. However, this can be a problem if you decide to downgrade since it doesn’t take effect immediately. Upgrading, though, is very quick.

The Free Plan is, expectedly, limited, but it’s a good way to introduce yourself to the features and start launching campaigns. This also means you’re not trapped with free trials that can automatically charge you or stop you from completing your projects. Upgrading to Pro and Business, however, lets you make the most of integrations, which are helpful in launching and keeping track of full-blown campaigns. Moreover, Gleam.io can customize the features if you have complex concerns like managing multiple sites.

Conclusion

Gleam.io makes creating and managing competitions easy, quick, and even fun. If there’s one thing missing, it will be the chance to generate reports, but with the way things are going, one can expect better features soon.
